This upward trajectory in AI engagement highlights an emerging trend where 55% of adults aged 50-plus utilize AI technologies for various purposes, reflecting a remarkable increase in digital literacy and device ownership within this demographic.

Over 65% of individuals aged 45 and older now employ AI-powered tools regularly, showcasing a substantial shift in user behavior. The ownership of smartphones among individuals aged 50 and older has surged dramatically, rising from 55% in 2016 to an impressive 90% in 2025. This increase in device ownership coincides with the fact that one in three individuals over 50 rely heavily on multiple apps and devices daily.

Additionally, smartphone ownership among older adults has reached unprecedented levels, further illustrating their adaptation to digital technology. Moreover, 75% of employed adults in this age group are also using AI, indicating that they are increasingly integrating these tools into their professional lives.

Furthermore, 66% recognize the value of AI in fraud protection and financial planning, further emphasizing the potential utility of AI technologies in enhancing independent living. However, barriers such as data privacy concerns, cited by 29% of respondents, remain considerable obstacles to widespread adoption.

Despite these challenges, a majority of older adults—66%—agree that technology enriches life and eases the aging process. Remarkably, 30% express excitement about AI’s potential to improve their daily lives.

This analytical overview indicates that while older adults face certain hurdles, their increasing engagement with AI and smart technologies positions them to benefit considerably from advancements in this field, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.
